  • I have a very good daughter. I had to work today. My mom is away to new york. I figured when I came home I was going to have to clean house but when I got home it was all done. That made my day.
  • I grew up close to my uncle. He was much older than my mom. He and his wife lived next door to us when I was a kid. They were unable to have children, and my aunt developed cancer while they were in the process of trying to adopt. He too wonderful care of her during the two years it took her to die. He was a college professor and somehow found time to become the primary caretaker of my siblings and me after my aunt died, when our parents were both having job problems. He took my brother to Boy Scouts, encouraged my intellectual interests, taught us to cook and ski and birth livestock, and had quiet talks with my sister's wild boyfriend, now her loving, responsible husband. I was in a terrible accident when I was 12 and my uncle took on a terrific load, taking care of me during 2 years in an out of hospitals, taking care of his students, and holding together my entire family. I think that I would have died and my family would have broken up without him. I lived with him for a three years of dissertation-writing and job hunting, and then he helped me start a company with two friends. He was dying of cancer and helping me yet again at the same time, but I wished that I could save his life like he saved mine. He died at home with all of us around him, they way he wanted. My uncle left his house to me in his will.
