Question

Help answer this question below.

My daughter wants to take her friends on an antique train ride for her birthday party. It's 5 bucks a child and 10 per adult. Is it cheesy to ask that adults pay for their tickets? I can't afford to pay for 2 adults per child. Help!

Good lord no! Offering to pay for all the kids is tops, but I don't think many people would be offended by being asked to pay their own way, should they decide to come too...

I don't think it's too much to ask that a parent pays for their own train ride, but I'm a teenager, what do I know...

If the invite states that you'd like to take their child for a train ride, and any adults who come along can get an adult ticket for $10, then they'll know what to expect and make sure to bring cash, etc. You're certainly not obligated to (and encouraged against!) paying for any adults (and aren't at all cheesy!) -- as long as you have enough adults on the train to supervise the troop, you're good to go.

I don't think it's "cheesy" due to today's economy and everyone's financial woes. Have you considered having the children attend without parents and getting a friend to help you transport and care for the kids while on the train ride? It might work out easier for you if you bought a ticket for another care giver as opposed to all the kid's parents, and took them for the train ride that way. Even two extra care giver tickets would be cheaper than all the parents tickets. Dependent on how old the kids are going to be that attend of course. I wouldn't do it this way unless the little guests are five and over.
