  • I would tend to believe the stat. I have known men who truely loved their wife, but not many of them.
  • The common problem when dealing with statistics is the definitions used and the inability to deal with specific circumstances. For example, if by "cheating" we're talking about making a deliberate, conscious effort to "find" another partner, that's one thing. What about being on a business trip in a different city, you're tired, it's the end of the day and an opportunity arises? What about, what about, what about...situations where many factors that are otherwise highly unusual, come into play? I can categorically say I wouldn't "cheat" on my wife...but I can't predict the future nor can I anticipate everything that might happen. I will say I have no intention to cheat and honestly believe I wouldn't. But that's as far as I can honestly go.
  • Nah, you just get a better class of guy on Answerbag.
  • I've heard many statistics saying that Woman are more commonly to cheat than men. . Always remember, never trust statistics unless you know exactly how they are attained and exactly what operational definitions they are using (for all you know this study could have been made on who cheats on a test more frequently). Statistics make very accurate lies. Look at Global Warming.
  • That's too high. Perhaps only 85% of married men would cheat if they would not get caught. The 14,5% on AB are just lying. LOL. 5% doesn't have any courage to do so.
  • maybe we just are good people here on AB...or we're lying
  • I had opportunity to cheat with little chance of being caught, but didn't. Don't see the point. As the say, one death is a tragedy, but a million deaths are a statistic. And let us not forget that a statistic means nothing to the individual.
  • The comments about statistics being easy to manipulate are very true. Maybe the type of guys who would cheat aren't the same 'type' of guys found on AB??
  • Clearly, somebody is. Either the people who took the statistics or the people on AB. Possibly both.
  • Of course some of them are lying. Haven't you seen the posts of all these female anonymous users who snoop through their husband's belongings, their cell phones, and internet activity? They have to create an anonymous account just to ask the question! Secondly, nearly all statistics are stacked according to what they ones who are paying for them want them to say. They are paying for a service, they expect results. In other words, "4 out of 5 dentists surveyed said they would recommend sugarless gum to their patients who chew gum". But what were the options the dentists were given in the scenario presented for the "survey" that they could offer thier patients?? A crack on the head? A dental drilling without novacaine? You just don't know. Additionally, this particular brand of sugarless gum is, by far, NOT the only brand of sugarless gum on the market. Realistically, those same dentists could be saying they are offering any and all brands of sugarless gums to their patients.....even a competitor's brand. +5
  • Lets put it this way: "87% of men". Meaning someone has researched 100%. There's our first problem, as I've never consented to a worldwide forced poll, and I know of tens of more men that havent and would never say that. So, the percentage is already off by a substantial amount because no generalization or percentage will ever be true. Ever. Also contributing to this fact is that hundreds of men who would disagree could have died moments ago, also altering that statement's credibility. So we haven't even come to the question yet and its already down to like 0%... Next, we look at human nature, and we know 3 things. People are dishonest, people are guilty, and people have a need for self gratification. Therefor making the percentage to in-credible, as in impossible to know for sure. So, I'd stop worrying about percentages and just know that people suck, and there are tons of people who would cheat and tons of people who are honest, whether it makes sense or not. It's all you can do :/
  • Duh! Yeah they are.
  • Me also thinks that some who here claim that no, they never would are "Protesting a bit too much". The stats and real life show us it does happen. . At the same time, how a question is structured can greatly influence the result. Eg. if you ask if I am planning to cheat, "no". If you ask if I would, "I don't think so". If you ask if I have thought about it, "hell yes" but even then, I do not mean CONSIDERED it, which is what one MIGHT infer, I mean fantasized, which is entirely different. . Heck, I suspect that some of the stuff i fantasize about isn't even anatomcally possible! ;DDD

  • Of course they're lying, though I don't get why. Guys should just own up instead of being cowards. If my wife does something to piss me off or won't put out, you bet your ass I'll be sleeping with someone else.
  • i think the only thing this statistic proves is that men are 87% more truthful when answering anonymous studies' questions
  • Given the amount of men and women that casually down their significant others on a fairly regular basis, it wouldn't surprise me to find that the 87% statistic is true.
  • Why would anyone admit that on AB? So they could be bashed relentlessly>?
