I too did the same back as a teenager. Raised myself. I have a friend with the same problem who's over 40 and I simply asked her why?...why put up with it?...what purpose do they suit?...just because they are family doesn't mean you have to have contact with them.

Well, you probably did the right thing, Millenium. My family is totally different, so I can't really give more advice. They are all always there for me when I need them. Always have been. We were always close, even as kids. Our parents made sure we respected each other. They did not allow bullying or teasing. Oh, there was some teasing, but it was "fun stuff". I was the youngest...and I got teased for sure, but it was in fun and very loving. I really liked it. At least i was getting attention from my big brothers. (smile)

They must feel guilt.Life is too short to waste it with certain people. It's not always easy to walk away, but it can be done and is very freeing.I've found this out a few years ago :)

Well, I don't know about most other people, but it's hard for me to walk away from friends and family. My reasoning is, God doesn't give up on us, so what right to we have to give up on others? I think we should grant people the same love, forgiveness, and mercy that was shown to us. Now, I understand that it can get very tough, and the only thing some people feel they can do IS walk away. I understand that feeling completely. I have felt like that sometimes. However, I wish we didn't feel that way.

Good for you. I too refuse to be around such people. Relations, family or not. Anyone who does is a 'Dependant - Enabler', IMHO.
