  • A saucepan is deep with high, usually fairly straight sides. A frying pan is shallow, often with splayed sides. I can't find anything to define the difference between a skillet and a frying pan, although I've always used skillet to refer to the sort which is just a flat (or ridged) plate with no sides at all.
  • I believe that a frying pan has a larger surface and low to medium sides, a sauce pan is smaller with higher sides so it can be used for liquids like sauces and gravy while a skillet has low sides, is smaller, often square, is made of cast iron and has grill lines in it. It is often used for grilling meat like steak.
