This phrase was in a Snickers commercial I saw today (Dec 6 2009). If there has ever been anyone more stupid than the marketing director for Snickers, I would like to know about it. The guy in the commercial is trying to ask why he is always hungry. He says "Warum bin ich immer Hunger?" Which means "Why am I always hunger?" Two ways to say this in German: "Warum habe ich immer Hunger?" (why do I always have hunger) or "Warum bin ich immer hungrig?" (why am I always hungry) Tens of thousands of German speakers in the US, over 100 million German speakers in Europe, and the creators of this commercial didn't even bother to 1) ask someone who knows German to write this one line, 2) get someone to check it for accuracy, or 3) get a German speaker for the part. A German speaker would have corrected it before it was produced. This Snickers commercial is an embarrassment and gives people overseas more evidence that Americans are stupid when in comes to simple matters of language. Snickers should pull this spot immediately and fire whoever approved it.
