How can I hem a pair of dress slacks without a sewing machine? They are much too long. My sewing skills are pretty basic, should I take them to a tailor instead?

I hem hubby's pants by hand but if you are not handy, keep the nice Asian lady at the tailor busy by bringing your pants in.

You can use fabric glue, or iron-on hem binding. There are two kinds of iron-on. One has two sides, you iron it onto the bottom, then peel off the covering, turn up the pant, and iron in the hem. With the other, you fold the hem up with the binding inside, and iron it together. Fabric glue is used by many fine clothing designers, especially the clothing you see on TV that is close fitted.

why don't you try hemming tape, my sister used it and it works.

you can buy hemming tape. its easy all you have to do is iron where you put the tape.
