• Things haven't been okay for about two years. We're dealing with some really nasty stuff, but at least the family is happy and contented with each other.

• Psssh... story of my life. This is the first Christmas my mom and I are having in I think 4 years. We really can't afford to do it this year but we are doing it anyway. We began planning it before we were this broke and we are going to finish it.

• Good for you!! We can celebrate Christmas without spending a lot of money, right? Explaining it so that my kids will understand is a tall order, though. I can see their little faces now :(

• They'll learn soon enough. I have had Christmases with less before the past 4 years. The Christmas when I was 8 there was a drunken fight outside our house (there was a bar across the street) and a bullet flew through our window and went under the Christmas tree. It was Christmas eve actually but whatever.

• See?? You can use that story on your kids if they get too sad. Remind them they could be dead. Maybe not say it like THAT but you know. Not to be too harsh but the commerciality of Christmas is something they'll have to learn sooner or later.
