Probably. Hollywood and all the dimwits who follow it like to make the holidays more than what the are. They aren't "magic". Solutions don't happen at the 11th hours. She goes off with him. You stay fired. Santa doesn't come and set you straight. But all of that is in your face. I can see why people off themselves.

Depression and suicide rates go up a lot during the winter months and holidays. This is due to economic situations, no sun, sadness over Christmas and not being with loved ones, etc. This is the time of the year that people think a lot about people who have died or that they can't be with for whatever reason. There is a big connection.

For those who have family, friends etc the holidays are a great time... for those who dont have these things, the holidays are a time when they are reminded of it!

Absolutely. The tie between suicide and holidays is strong. The movies, tv shows, and even commercials focus on strong family relationships. It can be a wicked time for those that don't keep busy for forward focused.
