What do you think about over protective parents?

Well, for my opinion, they are so over protective because they love us and don't want anything to happen. Many people think it's bad but it just means they love you a lot! It's actually a good thing!

It depends on *how* overprotective. I've seen many cases where parents were so protective of their kids that it was really more of a disservice to the children in the long run. Kids have to get some exposure to life's hardships and responsibilities at some point, so it's better that they have an understanding of it before they leave the house. Sometimes you can love someone, quite literally, to death. Love can also be suffocating...

I think it's wrong. Just because the kids will never know what to do because there's parents wont let them exprence them for them self's. I'm sure that everyone thinks different but my step brother and sister's mother is over protective and they don't know much of anything and how to defend them self's in any way. I think that they can be a little protective but not to an extreme.

I think it's extremely damaging. I had an over protective mother and a father who seldom stepped in. It felt like a prison of sorts. I felt as though I wasn't trusted, and I also felt socially disconnected from my peers. That disconnect led to my being a loner in school. It also led to me moving out when I was a Junior and taking on a fulltime job.

There is a line that some parents cross, but for the most part i like protective parents, but not over protective parents. I had parents that were under protective and as a child I knew things weren't right. I think it is my job to be protective. If some people think I am overprotective, i cna live with that.

I know WAY too many overprotective parents. My one friend is 19, has a full time job, but because he still lives at home (although he pays a small rent) he has an 11 o'clock curfew... He's a good kid and his parents raised him right but they don't realize this and now that he's out in the big world they are still trying to protect him. He's done stupid things under their protection... he's gotten totally wasted before, done I don't even wanna know what with his gf and probably a lot of other really stupid things he hasn't confessed to me about. But he's learned from them AND I can honestly say he wouldn't be trying to be such a badass all the time if he actually had some freedom.
