In Latvian, Polish, and the Slavic languages in general there are no words corresponding to a, an, or the. I am currently teaching two Polish women English and they have great difficulty with these words because of the lack of equivalents in their native language.

In Arabic there is no word, or at least there wasn't until recently, for "democracy".
