    Welcome to Answerbag!

Could you please give some details? Whom do you want to motivate?

A good read are the "Site Guidelines" (link at the bottom of the page).

You could also find some tips on my profile page:

    ------- (ADDED - after clarification) -----------

    1) The basic statement of Answerbag is on the homepage, after "The last question was answered in just [x] minutes". It is: "Let our thousands of members help!".
People basically come on Answerbag because they want to be helped by finding answers to their questions.
So you are really helpful to Answerbag if you give good answers to people questions, if you give answers that really help people.
(see "How to write a good answer" http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/138108 )

    2) Many users just have fun and interest at answering questions. So if you ask interesting questions, even if you might be able to find some of the answers yourself, they will also appreciate it. Some users are here because they really need help, or because they really want to be helpful, but many are here because they have interest themselves at answering questions.

    3) Originally, "Points are just a way for people who submit good questions and answers to be recognized by the Answerbag community." (from the "Sites Guidelines").
It is important to get points in the beginning because you must reach a given level to achieve full rating power, and that will also help you to get a better recognition. Some users focus on points and see it as a race for points. I think that if you do this, you miss a big part of the fun.

    4) Many users also just want to have fun and be entertained. There can be some conflicts because of this, for instance when people give a funny answer to a serious question.
So you have to be a little careful with those things, sometimes. Also, it is very important to stay polite and always respect others. It is good if you are able to de-escalate in aggressive situations, instead of making it worse with further agressions. Or just leave those threads where someone try to impose their opinions and is not able to really communicate. Don't let those few people annoy you and ruin your experience. There are many interesting people on here.

Answerbag can be a lot of fun and many of us are really addicted...

It seems the simpler the questions the better chance of a response. Long winded questions seem to get the least attention - generally speaking! Also be a bit zany at times. +5

Nothing much is expected, other then being polite. Something not all members do, just like any other social group. If you're looking to get points, asking good questions is half of it. Giving good answers is the other half. Welcome to the addiction Kattra, have fun.
