Why do we say; I slept like a baby, when babies wake up 10 times every hour?

i feel that saying , "sleep like a baby" is a colloquial term that probably is taken from the idea that when people look at babies sleeping, they are peaceful and calm and seemingly care-free. If a person has sleep problems, he seeks to find the scenerio. It has nothing to do with waking up, it has to do with the time the baby is actually asleep, and the fact that the baby wakes refreshed and happy. :)

Yes, it's true they do wake up alot. But when they are sleeping happily (they're not hungry and they're diaper is clean), you can move them from one place to another - say from the car to their crib - and most times they won't wake up.

When they sleep, they have no troubles.

well, not unless you have a bladder problem or bladder disease. then you'll be getting up every 7 minutes

When I say that I slept like a baby I usually mean that I shit myself during the night, and woke up crying.

maybe when they do sleep they are in a deep sleep
