When slavery was abolished at the North Pole, they became endentured servants. Nowadays, however, they collaborated and formed the SHIT (Santa's Helper Income Treaty) where they are permitted to take one naughty child each year and sell it to the highest bidder. This is the extent of their finances. Most squander the money on booze and trips to Las Vegas.

They live in his home, eat his food with warmth and care. They don't need payment, because they are doing a wonderful thing, and are being cared for in return. I mean who doesn't want to just make themselves whatever present they want for xmas too!
