Since I'm autistic and not very good-looking, I tend to push people away from me in real life. I guess my R/L "style" is that of a loner. I try to use the internet as a way to reach out socially, but it appears that I lack the social skills even for that. This is my second try on AB and it's not going any better than the first. I can get lots of points for factual or sarcastic-funny answers. I suppose that I wouldn't recognize friendship even if it were offered. I'm just too cynical and suspicious of everyone's motives.

I can understand your cynicism and suspicion, it's hard not to be when you've seen a bit of life. However, I think one of the benefits of AB is that it's a place for all sorts of people. I don't like to think that anyone would be excluded just for being socially awkward, and I'm sorry if you feel you don't belong. If it's any consolation I sometimes feel like that myself, but thankfully there are some other odd-balls on here too who make me feel less of an outsider. You're very welcome to my friendship any time you want it.

I don't use the "Friends" list. It didn't exist when I last left in '07. There was a lot of factional battles going on then. If there were such lists then it would just make it easier for potential enemies to know what faction you were aligned with. I don't want to attract enemies unnecessarily. I don't know what real friends are as I've never had any.

I hadn't even considered the friends list as cliquey thing, but I can see why you want to avoid it, given your experiences, and that's fine with me. It doesn't change the offer of friendship though, it's there for the taking without being on a list of any sort. Real friends can be hard to find, but they're worth having and I think you deserve to have them. You have to be a friend to have a friend, of course, but I think it's worth the effort to reap the rewards and I wish you well with finding that out.

Of course I accept your kind offer. If I ever reconsider my position about the List, you'll be #1 on it. As I said before, I don't have any experience at friendship. All I ever was in the first go-around on AB was a battle-comrade in a rather liberal faction. Of course the first time you disagree with the "party line" of your faction, you were totally ostracized. I finally got disgusted and left.

I can see why you would leave after that, it's most tiresome to have to toe the party line all the time. This whole thing is supposed to be about airing your views, not having to agree with everyone else. Narrow-mindedness is a very tiring thing to deal with. I'm honoured that you'd contemplate putting me on a list if you had one, I think you're a gent, sir, and I feel I've made a new friend, thank you.
