What REALLY happened was the witch cut her hair off and forced her out alone into the woods. Then, when the prince came back, the witch held down Rapunzel's braid and when the prince was at the top of the tower let go! He landed in some thistle bushes and blinds himself. Later on, they find each other because the prince still recognizes her signing. As soon as he gets to her, his blindness is healed and they lived happily ever after.
