If it was stated on the menu prior to ordering, then they knew what they were getting into and could have spoken to manager or left. Still, the concept of a mandatory tip is ridiculous. The entire concept of tipping is flawed. Make people pay for their meal AND the server's wage. I'm not their employer, I'm their customer. I think servers should be paid a fair wage, just like every other job.

Don't the cops everywhere in the world have more important things to do? Imagine yourself a cop having to be called to a restaurant to arrest some joe for not tipping. Ridiculous.

Not only stupid and petty,I wouldn't say it's even legal to be arrested,a tip of a tip,not the bill for services rendered,If the server or whatever is found not up to your standards,no tip,,too bad for the server.

Not at all. The tip should be voluntary.

No. The tip is for good service or at least not bad service. However a lot of places have the tip included in the cost of the meal. If that is the case then yes you have to pay the portion that is included but no one is obligated to leave any on the table for the server.

Interesting story, and I think establishments that have that mandatory tip crap added to their bills, need to leave the customer with the option to have it removed if they feel service was bad.

I agree with the couple, it's like they want to treat tips like another form of taxes or something

No way. There are people that don't tip for average service, much less service that is bad. As for getting arrested, there are places where policemen are needed, and to divert them by something as unimportant as this is just a waste of time.

I don't think any bar or restaurant should add the tip to the bill. It should be voluntary. I think these people probably should have spoken with the management before they left without paying the "full" bill. I hope the charges are dropped.
