if you really want to teach yourself, my suggestion is that for 10 dollars you can buy "Piano for Dummies". Surprisingly, for your money, it's the best tutorial for piano I have found for beginners. I started to play the piano 4 months ago and with this book as my guide, and I knew nothing of piano, and I mean nothing. Now i play some songs decently. If you dedicate an hour a day a few times a week, in a few months you will feel very happy with yourself :) Good luck!

You can teach yourself how to play by ear. I learned like this from watching other people play and listening to the radio. I didn't have any books and I was 6 years old. 1. Learn the sounds of the keys, notice how the sounds go upward as you play from left to right. 2. Learn how to press down gently on the keys. Curve your hand and pretend there is a little train passing under your hand so you will keep it up when you play. 3. Play with one hand at a time and then you can put the two hands together. 4. Pick out tunes on the piano and practice them. When people who play, play for you, notice how they use their fingers so you don't run out of fingers. The thumb goes under after the third finger plays. Good luck and have fun!
