- A bad joke... economists joke about these things all the time believe me... I scan the news all the time.
  .
  A recession is loosely defined as negative GDP for two consecutive quarters... we fit that definition...
  .
  A depression is more severe. Although there is no definition consensus among those smart ass economists... a depression is when GDP declines by 10%... which has not happened BUT... I hear The 'D' word all the time, so... I don't know! Sorry.
  .
  All I know is that I am making a lousy return on my investments... and that's what I live on.
  .
  So now you know why a wise guy answer was so much easier.
  .
  If you are working... good! Live a god life and eff everything else.
