  • A civil trial isn't ideal, I think. However, the other options will never be considered by some of the Western states, especially America. If you give anything other than a civil trial, you in effect award a certain status to al-Qaeda - they move from criminals, to a legitimate organisation. If they move to this level, to that of armed forces, they will get the status and protections that come with it. POW status, for example. I don't believe that they should be awarded POW status. I don't think that terrorists, not al-Q at least, should be recognised as legitimate. I don't want to give them any extra protection, not when they give no such protection or respect to anybody else. So for that reason alone, I am for civil trials.
