Does anyone actually believe you can get a job playing(oops, I mean designing) video games like they advertise on TV?

yes they do and it cost them between $20-50k to play ROTFL

someone has to design them, just not many ppl get a chance to do so...

The process of video game design involves a lot of people. You have editors, graphic designers, programmers, and testers (whose goal is to find the bugs in the program, not just play). So yes, some people get paid to play, but most people get paid to do typical desk job work. There are a lot of similarities between video game production and filmmaking.
