• You can distill Lord of the Rings and Star Wars down to their basic plotlines and they'll sound like the same story. The details and the artistic spirit are what make the difference. With that in mind, I grew up on Madonna, and while Lady Gaga can be put in the same basic category, when it comes down to details she doesn't strike me as being very similar at all. But maybe that's because I'm seeing more than just "weird clothes".

• Yes, I know. The elevator pitch for both of them is "female pop star with wacky fashion sense". Most people don't see past that, especially not people who don't enjoy contemporary pop music.
  
  Do you want an artistic critique? I can do that. Here's the short version.
  
  What I see in Lady Gaga is someone who is embracing the Hollywood/partygirl culture of shallow materialism and casual sex, but at the same time openly acknowledging how completely screwed up it is. She often comes across as being fascinated with the horror of it. Her image reflects this; while her style is often highly sexualized, it is also intentionally grotesque. The most prominent example I can think of is in her Bad Romance video, there are scenes where she's wearing skintight white latex, but she's digitally altered her body to give herself a prominent, very alien-looking ribcage and spine:

  The videos themselves, at least the recent ones, are surreal or abstract interpretations of the songs that are intended not to tell a story, but to put them in context emotionally. I'll gladly go into detail with this if you'd like.
  
  Basically, she is Diane Arbus to Madonna's Cindy Sherman, if that makes sense.

• Interesting article. Much of the symbolism is probably intentional, but I don't think the author understands that much of her work is satire. Paparazzi (both the video and the song) definitely touch on the concept of Hollywood-brainwashed masses, so the inclusion of symbols of Illuminati mind control makes sense.
  
  The author is misinterpreting some things, however. Some of the things he takes as Illuminati symbolism are actually just references to glam rock musicians, who she is hugely inspired by. Her name is a reference to Queen (which he acknowledges), and her silhouette-with-lightning-bolt symbol alludes to David Bowie (which he doesn't). So in some cases he's grasping at straws. But in others, yes, I'm sure it's both satirical and intentional.
