If I owned my own company I would always be able to find something for them to do. Even if I hired them just as a gopher or fill in for people or to clean the place I would certainly try. A lot of that of course depends on what kind of company it is and what jobs are available but I would do everything I could to help a friend.
If that person had a skillset which could potentially be useful to my business, yes I would. You never know what someone is capable of accomplishing unless that person is given the chance.
