<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Use the Right Paint
Vinyl siding paint should be a latex paint with a blend of urethane and acrylic resin. According to Reader's Digest, "getting paint to stick to vinyl is a challenge because it expands and contracts considerably with temperature changes." The paint must bond to the vinyl as well as remain flexible to accommodate the expansion and contraction of the siding.
On the Other: Account for Conditions
Since vinyl siding soaks up heat, you can damage your siding by choosing a color that is too dark, causing your siding to get hot and buckle. It is important that you choose a similar or lighter color than your existing vinyl siding. Also, paint your vinyl siding in cooler weather on cloudy days which will provide ideal conditions for the paint to dry and bond, and make sure to clean and dry the vinyl before you paint.
Bottom Line
Choose a light-colored paint for vinyl siding made from a blend of urethane and acrylic resin. Apply paint on cooler, cloudy days.
