DVD-3 is a code designation for DVDs from a specific region of the world signifying that the DVD will work in DVD players manufactured for or sold in that area. DVD-3 discs are designed for players in Korea, Vietnam, Borneo, Thailand and Indonesia.
Code Location
The DVD code can be found on the back of the packaging. The DVD-3 coding will in most instances specify what kind of player it will work on. Sometimes in this same spot there will be a warning or restriction on the DVD being exported to other regions.
Language Settings
DVD-3s will likely have the language default as Chinese or Korean; not all have an English language setting.
Types
Collectors and film enthusiasts might import DVD-3s if the title is not available in their market or because they have additional features that the DVD of the same film published in their region does not have.
All-region DVDs and Players
Some DVD players are built or can be easily modified to play DVDs from any region. DVDs with a region of zero are designed to play in all regions, including areas covered under DVD-3.
Blu-ray DVDs
Blu-ray DVDs have their own, broader region codes. DVD-3 locals would fall into Blu-ray categories A or C.
