The Internet has added websites and email to our range of communications tools. The latter enables you to send and receive communications within a few minutes and requires a unique address.
Answer
An alternate email address is an address that differs from the one you used to create an account at a website or Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Form
The local part of the address (which is before the @ sign) may be the same as that of your primary email address; however, the domain (which is after the @ sign) must be different.
Example
If your primary email address is JohnSmith@yahoo.com, your alternate may be JohnSmith@gmail.com or TechMan@dslextreme.com, but it cannot be TechMan@yahoo.com.
Use
If your primary email fails, the site can still use your alternate to communicate with you, such as discussing account details or restoring your account password.
Creating
You can create email addresses at many free services such as Mail.Yahoo.com or Mail.Google.com. You can then use these free addresses as your alternates.
