Help answer this question below.

Went to park truck and shift lever felt like pushing through mud, couldn't get reverse and only drives in 1st. then found park position on lever but truck is still in gear and wont start after it was shut off. is this a column problem or tranny? both?

    sounds like the cable retaining bracket is broke
    the outer sheath of the cable must be static for the inner cable to slide freely
