If the antibiotics have not helped, the only recourse is surgery. This surgery is not too bad for a younger person, but older people suffer much more. If your doctor suggests surgery, agree and get it over with.

i didn't realize tonsillitis affected brain function. what do you think you should do? maybe, oh i don't know, see the doctor again? OH MAN that hurt to come up with. i might have to rest now, took up so much brain power.

Go back to your doctor if the medication is not helping and explain that you are still in significant pain. There could be an underlying problem which the drugs aren't coping with - for example, I was treated for tonsillitis some years ago and it turned out that I had glandular fever which doesn't respond to drugs.....not saying that is what your problem is but there could be something beside tonsillitis. Good luck.

egads. go to doc. there are infectious microbes that are resistant to certain types of antibiotics, like penicillin (consider methicillin resistant staph aureus, for example). you should call your doc asap, and see if he might take a throat culture to pinpoint what kind of bug is there; its possible he will just change the type of antibiotic you are on. and yes, he may just recommend surgery. in the future, you should not wait so long if you are unsure. id not have waited more than a week and a half or so, before at least giving the doc a call to double check whats up. you don't want infections to spread. small problems can become big if you wait too long. take care and good luck.

You should have already gone back to the doctor.
-
If you have been on penicillin for the past week after trying other antibiotics for the previous month, it's time to remove them.
-
Go to different doctors may be it helps you.
-
Go back to the doctor or go to a new doctor for a second opinion.
