SHE is out of gas !! She nevver paid for any "Cat Support" etc so the cat is YOURS .... as long as there was NO contract etc where you agreeded to return the cat .. +5

No, I think if it ever went to court (which would be ridiculous)they would decide the cat was abandoned when the owner did not send support. Who has the cat registered with animal control?

This is a tug of war. Since your son is attached and involved it is cruel of her to want it back, but I don't know the whole story here. If I were her I would be grateful that kitty has a good home and great people who love it. However, if there was no child and she wanted it back I would give it to her.

If I were a judge, I would say that she abandoned the cat and it is very difficult and expensive to bring an animal into a country like Germany because it would have to be in quarantine for a bit and that would be very hard on the cat. If she has any brains and half a heart, she will get herself a cat in Germany and leave this one in your loving home. http://www.ehow.com/how_2148259_bring-family-pet-germany.html Take a look at this link, it is a very detailed process to bring a cat into Germany and she will have to pay for proof of vaccinations and micro-chipping which could be a big deterrent. I would venture to say that she is thinking with her heart (finally) but not her head.

Did you agree to return the cat? If not, then the cat is yours. However, I think you need to think about what is best for the cat. Who is the cat most attached to? If it's been living with this woman for it's whole life, it might be more attached to her, and might be better off going back to her, but if the cat has become VERY attached to your family, then it might be a bad thing for the cat for her to separate you... I suggest you think it over carefully, and choose the option which benefits the animal, whichever option that may be. Good luck.

Legally she would have a very hard time getting the cat back. How old is the cat? Had she had it long before she had to give it to you? If the cat had spent most of it's life with this woman, I would give it back. Providing, of course, that she is planning to keep it forever. If not, I'd probably keep it and deal with the fall out.
