  • I'm always a little disturbed when people mention "tort reform". I would point out that the medical profession continually demonstrates disregard for the rights and comfort of patients and has proven itself virtually incapable of self-governing and control over malpractice. The only "controls" in this country over malpracticing doctors and hospitals seem to come from attorneys who file lawsuits on people who have suffered malpractice. I realize that some lawsuits are meritless but the real answer is more careful medicine, not restricting the rights of the individuals who suffer at the hands of bad medicine. Tort reform is a myth. The results of malpractice lawsuits has been more careful checks and balances on the practice of medicine and major benefits to the general public.
