  • She not be totally ready to lay the eggs, if she is even pregnant. It can take a few days sometimes for the females to lay eggs, and even when they do, they lay on them so you cant see them. As long as the male is watching over her, she will be fine, or possibly she is comfy in there.
  • I'm wondering if your parakeets laid eggs? Once they take interest in the nest box, it's a good sign! Sometimes they have to get used to it, chew it up a bit, and make it theirs. First, you have to have a BONDED pair of parakeets that are male and female, which, it sounds like you have. Even so, they might not make babies. But if they like each other enough, and want to be parents, they are going to work on it. Eggs are laid every other day about 2-5 days once they start mating. However, some birds mate every day! Just because a bird mates does not mean they are going to lay eggs. And even when they do mate, and lay eggs, the eggs are not always fertile. Be sure you give them 12 hours of light a day...they need that to breed. Also, make sure they have plenty of fresh water to drink AND to bathe in, especially once the eggs are laid. Heat and humidity are key in incubating the eggs. Please look at my website, Parakeet Paradise, found at www.freewebs.com/huggybec, as it is a site specifically designed for parakeet reproduction, growth and development. Best to you and your keets!!
  • Here's the secret to getting your budgies to mate and lay eggs,... are you ready?; LEAVE THEM ALONE! Your presense and constant checking is disturbing there enviroment, they won't mate or lay if they feel threatened by something 200X there size. See, easy math.
