wierd. try closing all running applications and playing the game to free up as much RAM and CPU as possible... but if that dosent work seems like your computer just cant handle the game...

One possibility is overheating. Systems can do odd things when they are near/over their maximum operating temperature. Going to your desktop requires less graphical oomph so your video card won't heat up and may actually have a chance to cool off a little. Another possibility is that you have a memory error at a high address that only shows up when you fill the RAM. Given that you have 2GB, that won't happen very often except in gaming situations unless you do a lot of heavy multimedia work. Or maybe you don't have the latest/greatest drivers for your video card. Your specs are decent so you should be able to play pretty much any game out there.
