Actually, the religious "hang up" seems to be more on the perpetrator's part. He apparently was against going to fight in Iraq because of his Muslum beliefs (which may be distorted or not, I don't know). Btw, Americans may be among the LEAST "hung up" on religion. Americans have never had roaming religious tribes taking over regions at threat of death, etc.

Extreme stress and repeated trauma from counselling all those soldiers coming back from Afghanistan with PTSD and horror stories.
