  • As of 2009, Missouri has a statewide sales tax of 4.225 percent on the purchase of tangible personal property, according to the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association. Certain counties have a higher tax. For instance, St. Louis is 9.241 percent, Franklin is 8.725 percent, Jefferson is 7.225 percent and Washington is 8.225 percent. There is a special 4 percent tax added to the sale of motor vehicles, trailers, boats and outboard motors.
