    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

The amount of memory, or RAM, a computer needs depends on the operating system. Although it may cause lagging and very slow loading times, a PC running Windows XP only requires 64 megabytes of RAM to function properly. On the other hand, Windows Vista requires 512 MB.
