  • I guess they could just enjoy those holidays & that's why they celebrate them.
  • Any excuse for a party, I guess!
  • Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny instead of "Jesus' birthday" or "Jesus risen". You don't need xian beliefs for anything.
  • I guess they have doubt as to whether Jesus actually did exist and feel somehow that he might have, which is some deep rooted fear so they observe the holidays as probably a superstitious inusrance policy; just incase...
  • Most holidays are commercial not religous. I knew these people that were jehovah wittness and let the childran have christmas because all they were celebrating was gift giveing. It dose not have the same mean ing anymore.
  • Although I was raised non-Christian, Christmas and Easter were still important holidays for us. My parents both grew up in Christian households and had many good childhood memories about these holidays that they wished to share with their children. Despite raising us non-Christian, we continued to celebrate these holidays for what they represent to us in terms of these memories and family togetherness. I'll likely do the same with my children regardless of my beliefs.
  • In America at least holidays are not religious observances any more but times when people can get off from work and have family gatherings or just party if that is what they want. Christmas is about gift giving, St Patrick’s Day is about drinking and celebrating Irish heritage; Easter is about Easter egg hunts and family gatherings, etc. They are not religious celebrations. So anyone of any religion or no religion at all can enjoy them since they have nothing to do with religion any more.
  • That's because most Christian/Catholic holidays WERE Pagan holidays in the start.
  • Because most of us were raised in Christain households and still want to continue the nonsecular traditions as they still have meaning for us. And most Christain tradtions are actually Pagan in root. The Church barrowed them when they relized they would never totally stamp out the Old Ways. It made it easier to convert people when they relized they didn't have to give up everything.
  • 1.) Most Christian holidays were originally Pagan holidays. (Yup, it's true, do some research.) 2.) We celebrate some holidays for cultural - not religious - reasons. 3.) We celebrate holidays with our loved ones, because everyone gets together in one place.
  • A better question would be: Why do the Christians celebrate the pagan holidays? Like the Festival of Oestare, the fertility godess of spring, often respesented by rabbits and eggs. Or the festival of Yule, commemorating the yearly death of the male aspect of the nature god/ess. Evergreens feature heavily here, as they represent the ability of life to survive the winter. Or how about Samhain, the so-called day of the dead that occurs at the end of the harvest season. Except the Christians call it, All Hallow's Eve, the night before All Saint's Day. It might be that Constantine proclaiming Christianity to be the official religion was no enough to convince people to convert, until the Romans co-opted all the agricultural holidays and pretended that they were really Christian holidays.
  • Because most of the so called Christian Holidays were originally Pagan.
  • most catholic/xtian holidays are pagan
  • Because when christianity first came into play they were trying to convert everyone and the pagans had the sabbats already in place so the Christians "stole" the sabbats and called them christian holidays hoping to get all people to follow suit.
  • because they are really rooted back to pagan culture.Christmas was originally a pagan holiday, for example
  • tinsel withdrawl, magic polished ornaments, free stuff and people drooling over free stuff
  • Most Christian holidays were Pagan to begin with. Besides what the hell, even if they're Christian holidays today, most of them seem to be about buying stuff in stores until you ruin yourself, whether it's Christmas presents or chocolate, so whatever the true menaings of these were, Christian or Pagan, most people probbaly don't take it seriously, so it's for everyone now. Happy Holidays as opposed to Merry Christmas and alla that jazz.
  • they are all man made holidays, easter, christmas, etc.......really not related to Christ ......its just going with the flow, i guess......
