  • Which parts? There is so much there. I guess it is obvious that the part that says; keep only me as your God is still relevant. Jesus taught that himself. Stoning people? Destroying towns? We are taught to love all people, not harm them. But this is still relevant; teaching us that if we hear of people who have wandered from their faith we should find the truth before taking action. For example, rebuking a wayward friend, disciplining a child - but the facts must be straight, and done with love. The temptation to ignore God's commands often sneaks up on us, and that is not backed up by the New Testament.
  • This is another of those instances that you need to understand the history of that region in order to understand it. The religions that surround Israel at that time sacrificed children in their worship. Archeologists have found some of the altars of these gods, and there are tens of thousands of urns buried around these altars filled with the bones of animals and children. Would you want to follow a God who didn't care about the murder of children, or demand justice for it? I mean, look how mad people got at Casey Anthony. Would you follow a God who didn't care about a child like Caylee Anthony? Would you follow a God who didn't want to punish something like that? What about a God who didn't care about tens of thousands of children being sacrificed to an idol? At the moment, I don't think there are any Baal worshipers out there who are sacrificing children, although it does seem that some people are getting interested in Baal again, mainly because he is not the Judeo-Christian God and they don't like the Judeo-Christian God. So they are showing interest in whatever they think is a slap in His face. But if they do start sacrificing children, would you ignore it? Or would you wipe out the evil in your midst? Stoning was the accepted form of capital punishment in those days. We have lethal injection now. Would you not use a lethal injection on someone who murdered their kids? What about the Muslim father who ran over his daughter and killed her because she was becoming too "Westernized?" Will you avert your eyes from that? Yes, Deuteronomy 13 still has value today. Yes, God still demands justice for children murdered by their parents in the practice of their religion.
  • It is an excellent question and here is the best answer I can give from my understanding of the Bible, and in particular, the relationship between OT and NT: . The Torah law codes are the laws by which the kingdom of God is administrated. They represent God's will and rulership. The Israelites abondoned God's rulership when they sought themselves a king, but still, this was a monarchy under God's rulership. With the destruction of the Kingdoms of both Israel and Judah, the the laws of the Kingdom are put to the side, not because they are irrelevant, but because the Kingdom had ceased from the Jews. Christ's gospel is that the kingdom is again at hand, therefore repent and recieve salvation for sins through faith in Christ. Christ himself will be the reigning king of this Kingdom, and the laws of Deut will be irrelevant, because such offenders would not even enter the kingdom being put to the ultimate death. Hope that was helpful. +5
