They're pithy.

Well if you're in an inappropriate location and absolutely must go, you can always turn away and pith in your helmet. Don't know about the cool factor, but it may be when I put it back on my head the flow cools me off.

They include a strap that keeps one's chin up and, in a pinch, may be employed to stiffen one's upper lip!

Three basic qualities,..light weight (as helmets go), blocking the sun's rays while allowing heat to escape from the head.
