  • Yes, I believe it because it is true and factual. Religious people of a certian religion adore and praise their religion to the fullest extend so much they're willing to sacrifice their lifes to something they think is right and holy.
  • Phrasing it this way is going to skew the answers. "Blowing up" is a relatively recent capability, while religious martyrdom has been around for much, much longer. If you are looking for an unbiased answer (which I suspect you are not), you'd be better to be less specific, and ask about religious martyrdom in general. Otherwise you are going to hear from a lot of bigots who won't relate the specific example to the less specific phenomenon of sacrificing your life for what you believe. edit: see? Told ya.
  • I think that if people want to achieve religious martrydom by blowing themselves up with explosives and blowing others up too, then why not do it in church or synagogue or mosque or whatever place of worship they use. That way they can take all their friends and relatives with them and have a jolly time in whatever afterlife they believe it will achieve, explaining to whatever God they profess to follow, exactly what they were doing, why they were doing it and what they hoped to gain by it - because somehow I don't believe that God in whatever form you choose to believe would approve of it. At least that is my opinion.
  • I think those people REALLY believe there is a valid reason for it. Of course I don't condone it. If they only did it by themselves would be another story. Taking the lives of countless innocent victims along with them it's abominable in my opinion.
  • I think that anyone who kills in the name of religion (either others or themselves) has missed the point entirely.
  • Never. Religion is about revering life and spreading peace and love, not violence.
  • I believe they do it and it means something to them. I can not fathom the thought of any one that even thinking along those lines. I know the God in my life would not want it to happen that way. But I can respect others beleifs, except when they are harming innocent people.
  • Anyone can blow themselves up for any reason, as long as they do not take anyone else with them. In the 60s several Buddhist monks made a statement about the Vietnam war by self-immolating. While I am appalled at any thing like this, at least they did not take anyone with them. There is a big difference between willing martyrdom (ie I am willing to die for my faith) and suicide bombing (I am willing to die AND KILL for my faith). Anyone who believes that this is right and encourages others to do it, is evil.
  • I do not know enough about the religon and why some do suicied bombing. so i don't jugde. but it is diturbing to hear about some one exploding themselves for a cause...
  • No - That is just a waste of life
  • I like how u out ur opinion only a biggot would down rate u..
  • No. I despise the attitude that says "My religion/god is SO important to me, I am going to make you die for it" - even if they do take themselves out as well.
  • The thing is, that suicide bombers are often not blowing themselves up in the interest of religion. It is often as much or more to do with politics than religion alone. For example, look at where most of the suicide bombs are being reported, Palestine/Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, look at the political turmoil in these countries! I do not necessarily condone what these people do, however, I cannot entirely condemn something when I have never lived in a situation with literally no way out; where my life was so difficult or meaningless that I'd might as well be dead. I can empathize with the people who feel that way because I know countless refugees who's family's have been in such a situation and somehow miraculously made it as refugees to the west. The stories are horrific to hear let alone live through, I can see from where the despair stems. On the issue of killing others (ie bombings without suicides), these are not new. Look at Oklahoma City, Ireland etc. these attacks were condemned but not as vehemently as suicide bombings seem to be. I don't understand why a bombing is so much more reprehensible when it is a suicide bombing. While I believe any terrorist, revolutionary or military act that results in "collatoral damage" to make a political point is entirely wrong, unfair and diminishes the value of each human life, in the case of a suicide bombing, at least they're not hypocritical about it (set/drop the bomb and run to save themselves). The suicide bomber puts him/herself in the same situation as the innocent victims, which does not redeem the act but if the act is inevitably going to happen (due to the politics of the situation) it does seem to me, somehow less cowardly.
  • I'm a Muslim and don't believe in any of the suicide bombings. Many innocent people are killed as a result of this. There are better ways to deal with getting your land back and violence isn't one of them.
  • I'm a muslim and don't believe in killing innocents or bombs stuff. That's not what islam or any religion teaches. Religions are meant to spread peace not to bomb anyone. They probably have lack of knowledge of teachings of Islam or any other religion. I may not be that religious but I've learnt that is entirely wrong approach.
  • The people that do this are brain washed.
  • I AGREE WITH MYSTICD ANSWER AND MORE SO IN COUNTRIES THAT HAVE BEEN INVADED BECAUSE LETS FACE IT PEOPLE ONLY BLOW THEM SELVES UP IN A DESPERATE SITUATION LIKE IN TIMES OF WAR, AND ESPECIALY IF THE INVADING FORCE IS ADVANCED IN TECHNOLOGY AND THATS THE ONLY OPTION UR LEFT WIV TAKING AS MANY OUT WIV U AS POSSIBLE YEH ICAN IMAGINE PEOPLE WOULD FIND IT ACCEPTABLE BUT ONLY IN WAR,CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES LIKE WHATS HAPPENING IN IRAQ,AFGANASTAN,AND ISRAEL. BECAUSE THEY ARE CLASSED AS HOSTILE FORCES IT CAN'T ALL BE ONE SIDED NICE AND TIDY,WAR NEVER IS AND U USE WHATS TO HAND WHICH IS MUCH FOR THESE COUNTRIES BUT EXPLOSIVES SO I GUESS YES WHEN THEY HAVE NO OTHER CHIOCE OR MEANS TO FIGHT.BUT NEVER CIVILIANS INNOCENT WOMAN OR CHILDREN REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY HAVE DONE. ITS THE SOLDIERS YOUR FIGHTING AND GOVERMENTS BUT THE CIVILIANS GET USED AS SHEILDS AND ALL MANNER OF EXCUSES ARE MADE ON BOTH SIDE OUT OF ANGER AND PAIN. IF THE JAPENSE USED TO DO IT IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR AND U USE LAND MINES AND BOMBS WHERE DO U DRAW THE LINE,RANDOM EG,A LOT OF HUMAN BEINGS OUT THERE IF OPRESSED LONG ENOUGH FORGET THE VALUE OF LIFE AND DON'T THINK ITS WORTH LIVING IN SUCH EXTREME CIRCUMSTANES YES, BUT BECAUSE IM SOFT HEARTED AND REALLY SQUEAMISH THIS IS NOT DONE LIGHTLY , IVE THOUGHT WHAT I WOULD DO IF I WAS IN A SITUATION LIKE THAT I WOULD ALWAYS TRY THE PEACEFULL WAY, I HONESTLY COULD'NT KILL ANYBODY BECAUSE I VALUE LIFE AND IF I COULDN'T RUN AWAY FROM DANGER I GUESS I WOULD DIE, I CAN'T EVEN KILL A GNAT NEVER MIND AN OTHER HUMAN BEING AND IF ONE LIFE IS DEARER TO GOD THAN ALL THATS BETWEEN THE HEAVEN AND EARTH HOW COULD I EVEN RAISE A HAND TO MY BROTHER OR SISTER, WE ALL CAME FROM ADAM AND EVE SO WE ARE ALL RELATED.IF MORE PEOPLE TOOK THE TIME TO CONTEMPLATE ABOUT OUR LIVES AND THEIR MEANING'S THIS WORLD COULD BE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PLACE.
  • As far as I am concerned, anybody who wants to blast themselves to smithereens in the name of their God, the cat or even just for the hell of it, can do so with my blessing - just as long as nobody else gets hurt (which is never going to happen is it)?
  • As far as I'm concerned people can blow themselves up for any reason they wish, I'd even help them! However it would need to be done in a large field or on a boat or some other location so that noone else would be hurt by the explosion.
  • Some people are blowing other people up without blowing themselves up in the name of their religion. I consider that worse. But I don't 'believe' in any of them.
  • No, this is inhumane
  • Absolutely, but it shouldn't be in a crowded market place. They should detonate themselves in a huge field and let everyone know they intend to do it so they can watch and videotape it.
