  • Good question. I think the right time to get involved is when you believe harm is coming to someone (or something in the case of animals) either directly (assault) or indirectly (B&E). Involvement doesn't have to mean direct intervention if it means putting your own safety in jeopardy. A call to the police may be the better choice. A person should not hesitate to intervene in case they are mistaken or because they assume someone else will step in. Better safe than sorry can be a life saving way to think. Have you ever seen those bystander social experiments - you can find them on YouTube. Its eye opening to see people's reactions to strangers in trouble. I have helped when possible in situations like car crashes, and hope I would intervene in less crowd drawing incidents.
