Architect Nicolás Quintana says "buildings can be mute, talk or sing, as translated by me", he says: " In every great city most buildings are mute, silent or they murmur but they all form part of the urban context creating a continuity, an architectural parade. In this parade, the buildings that talk have something of quality that takes away their muteness. Others, a few, sing showing their architectural excellence. It is that variety among the continuity that makes a city great." So what is art?, is a not an expression of ones feelings, or an attempt to translate an emotion into something tangible. Look at the works by Gaudi, is that not an Artistic expression using Function as the medium. This is a question that will has been, and will be argued over for some time. It if were purely a matter of function, then why would there be such a variety in the Architectural world. F.L.W and "Arts and Crafts", Le Corbusier and "Modernism", Gehry and "Deconstructionism", Meier and his "Purist or "Sculptural" works. The Art Deco of the Chrysler Building.. As an Architectural Designer, to me it is an Art first and a science second...
