  • I've never heard this, and can't fathom any reason why this would make sense scientifically. My hunch is that it's a myth.
  • Not if you remove the foil before eating.
  • I think this is a myth born from a old myth about tin foil. It used the fact that food cooked in tin foil often tasted like tin in order to say that somehow the food being cooked was being contaminated, and thereby degrading your health if you consumed the food in question. So no, aluminum foil has been in use for a very long time, and has shown no short or long term adverse effects to the health of the millions of people who have consumed food that has been cooked within aluminum foil. Funny thing about this subject: I think that every time a person refers to aluminum foil as "tin foil", somewhere a chemist dies.
  • ...you need to take the foil off first...lol...this sentence is a great example for my students about sentence clarity!!! I am going to use it on Monday...I love it!!!!
  • Not that I'm aware of and I've eaten the durn things that way all my life. Sounds like B.S. to me.
  • I certainly hope not. I do it all the time.
  • Nope. :-)
  • No, it would just be unhealthy to eat the foil.
  • No, there is nothing unhealthy about foil. It's just a wrapper. But it's better tasting to bake potatoes in their own 'jackets' and not in foil When you wrap them in foil, you are actually steaming them inside of baking them. They don't get that wonderful creamy inside and thin crisp exterior with foil.
  • No but eating the foil would be
  • I have eaten baked potatoes cooked in aluminum foil for almost 66 years and i am still here to talk about it. No, its okay.
  • I've never heard anything against this practice. Just don't eat the foil!
  • Because potatoes are in a group known as "nightshades" they are inherently mildly poisones. Green skinned and potatoes that have sprouted are slightly more poisones. Therefore there is the potential of being poisoned by any nightshade plant. As for Aluminum foil; there is strong evidence aluminum can "trigger" Alzheimer’s disease. That means aluminum cannot cause Alzheimer’s but if you have the potential of having it there is an elevated risk you can. If you have Alzheimer’s in your blood line family it raises the chances to around 80%. This includes aluminum for any source including anti-perspirents. So yes eating a potato baked in foil could be unhealthy.
  • No its safe to eat them :)
  • Iam really glad you asked this Q. Do not bake potatoes in foil. It spoils the taste. And when you open them, do not use a knife. You a fork, break the skin, don't cut it--wich seals in the steam from the heat.
