  • It is a reference to Titus 2:14 and Peter 2:9. Wherein true believers are "a peculiar people". But when you get down to such, all christians like to feel they are.
  • Not involved in the politics and policing of the world we know. (John 17:11) “Also, I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world and I am coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them on account of your own name which you have given me, in order that they may be one just as we are.
  • Time to slowly back into your house and close the door.
  • JW's distance themselves from select matters of this world - education, politics, economic success ... . having a few friends / family who have become JW's, i rib them when i say, "illegal aliens!!!" :)
  • It means to not be involved in the workings of the world...politics and policing. (John 17:11) “Also, I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world and I am coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them on account of your own name which you have given me, in order that they may be one just as we are. THEY ARE IN THE WORLD... (John 17:15) “I request you, not to take them out of the world, but to watch over them because of the wicked one. (John 18:36) Jesus answered: “My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.” Under pain of arrest and imprisonment and/ or fines...J.W's do not vote... BUT SIMPLY ACCEPT THE GOVERNMENT THAT OTHERS VOTE IN... If that government makes bad decisions, we live with those decisions, knowing that in God's new system, all these government systems will be done away with...by God himself... (Psalm 37:34) Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, And he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see [it].
  • I got a little caught up in looking up scriptures, some that may not be relevant. I started just to delete the whole thing, but I spent alot of time on it, so here it is. Sorry if this is no help. "World" can mean (1) humankind as a whole, apart from their moral condition or course of life, (2) the framework of human circumstances into which a person is born and in which he lives (and in this sense it is at times quite similar to the Greek ai·on′, "system of things"), or (3) the world of humanity alienated from God, of which Satan is the god and from which we must stand apart, such as the world that was destroyed in the flood. (John 1:9, 10; 17:14; 2Corinthians 4:4; James 4:4; 2Pet 2:5, 3:6) (1John 2:15-17) Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16 because everything in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17 Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever. (Ephesians 2:2-3) in which YOU at one time walked according to the system of things of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit that now operates in the sons of disobedience. 3 Yes, among them we all at one time conducted ourselves in harmony with the desires of our flesh, doing the things willed by the flesh and the thoughts, and we were naturally children of wrath even as the rest. (1 Corinthians 7:31) and those making use of the world as those not using it to the full; for the scene of this world is changing. (John 14:30) I shall not speak much with YOU anymore, for the ruler of the world is coming. And he has no hold on me, (John 16:11) then concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. (John 17:9) I make request concerning them; I make request, not concerning the world, but concerning those you have given me; because they are yours, (John 17:14-15) I have given your word to them, but the world has hated them, because they are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world. 15 “I request you, not to take them out of the world, but to watch over them because of the wicked one. (John 12:31) Now there is a judging of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. (Matthew 16:26) For what benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul? or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) If, now, the good news we declare is in fact veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, 4 among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through. (James 1:27) The form of worship that is clean and undefiled from the standpoint of our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation, and to keep oneself without spot from the world. (James 4:4) Adulteresses, do YOU not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God. (John 16:33) I have said these things to YOU that by means of me YOU may have peace. In the world YOU are having tribulation, but take courage! I have conquered the world.” (1 John 5:3-4) For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome, 4 because everything that has been born from God conquers the world. And this is the conquest that has conquered the world, our faith. (Hebrews 11:7) By faith Noah, after being given divine warning of things not yet beheld, showed godly fear and constructed an ark for the saving of his household; and through this [faith] he condemned the world, and he became an heir of the righteousness that is according to faith. (2 Peter 2:5) and he did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people; (2 Peter 3:6) and by those [means] the world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Eph%204:17-32&version=YLT;DARBY;HCSB;AMP;NASB
  • It means the present political and even religious system that now functions... So J.W's do not vote politicians into office...even on pain of imprisonment...in obedience to ... (Romans 13:1-2) Let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. 2 Therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves. God ALLOWS these authorities to maintain services and prevent anarchy, but does not necessarily agree with some of their imposed laws... So if local laws do not clash with God's law, they are fully obeyed by J.W's. On the other hand, if a local law was passed to cease the door to door work, it would be disobeyed...because it would be in direct opposition to (Acts 5:42) And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus. So J.W's pay taxes and obey traffic laws...even if those taxes are used by the authorities to buy armaments... J.W's also will not be involved in mixing with other religions, because they are not obeying basic scriptures...even though they possess the Bible... for example, the RCC has dealings with the Jewish and other religions , sometimes in joint services... There CAN be only ONE religious truth.
  • Doesn't that convey a separatist superiority? ;-)
  • What they mean to say is "we descend from alien life forms"
  • it means we stay completely separate from the practices of this world. these include religious, as well as any other unscriptural popular custom from the world.
  • They mean that they feel as if they are travelers in this world waiting to get to heaven.
  • It means they're from Utah.
  • I think this all means that "us" people are only here in this world who are going through a test and to experience life. On the other hand, "we" people do not belong on this world, because there is only one world after we have experience this world we are in now, and that world of Jehovah is Heaven.
  • THEY ARE DREAMING DUDE! WE NEED TO WAKE THEM UP! LOOOOL!
  • Maybe.............They want to play a game?
  • I'm not a JW, but have an answer from my sect's view. "We are in the world, but not of it" means that we live in modern society (we don't isolate ourselves in communes), but we are not worldly (we keep ourselves unspotted from the ills such as covetness, lewdness, greed, etc).
