First of all you have to be a non-exempt employee, which means that you get paid by the hour as opposed to earning a straight salary. Then you have to work more than 40 hours per week and/or the occasional holiday.

Make management aware of the fact that you are willing to work it.

Be good at what you do. Let it be known that you're willing to stay longer to get the job done and done well, otherwise, you'll be back on your next scheduled day.
