If you don't understand what someone is saying, how many times can you ask them to repeat it? What should you do if you still don't understand them?

This happens frequently to me because I'm hard of hearing in a way. At least for the higher frequencies and if there's a lot of background noise. And it is made worse by my trying to decipher the many different accents out there. In the end, if I still don't understand what they're saying, I have to tell them, "I'm sorry, I don't understand." It happens.

Pretend that you do and riff it.

I guess ultimately all you can do is just tell them you just don't understand and move on. At that point, it's pretty useless to continue.
