  • How DARE you pleasure yourself! Get with the program... ...DEMAND pleasure from others!
  • I doubt that God created this amazing world and wonderful human form with such creativity, for us only to walk around with our heads hung low in misery. Though many would have you believe such things.
  • Morally speaking, there is nothing wrong with pleasure as long as it is not your most important goal in life. If it was, that would be selfish, and there is a moral objection against selfishness.
  • I think we're missing the balanced approach here. Yes, life is pleasurable, but that isn't the whol story. The other side of the coin involves learning from mistakes, growing as an individual, and learning to show mercy, patience, and kindness. None of those is pleasurable, exactly, especially when the temptation is to smack the crap out of somebody who richly deserves it :D +5
  • Life is NOT all about pleasure. The more you try to make it all about pleasure, the less pleasure you will have and the less you will give to others. If you want to know where living for pleasure gets you, just watch The Biggest Loser. When you sit and eat and watch TV or play video games and have sex all day, you end up the incredible 500 lb human being. You also end up in debt, and usually friendless. Who wants to spend time with someone who only wants to pleasure themselves? Its kind of boring, pointless and masochistic to hang out with someone who only cares about himself and his own pleasure. Now, I'm not saying that to have pleasure is wrong. But the longer you live, the more you find out that real pleasure comes from giving pleasure to others. That is the kind of pleasure that gives you friends, family, and success in life. It is also the kind of pleasure God meant for us to have. I'm pretty sure that this question comes out of the discussion on the young man that wanted to convince his girlfriend that self-pleasure is wrong. I did run across your answer there. Here is the thing: which is better, sex with someone you love in which you give them pleasure? Or sex with your own left hand? God means for us to have pleasure, but in the right context. When you are married to someone you truly love and you are each trying very hard to give pleasure to the other, you get mind-blowing sex and an incredible bond with your spouse, which is what God intended. You also get a family, which makes it even better. When you pleasure yourself, all you get is stains on your latest issue of Hustler. Somehow, that isn't very attractive, and it isn't what God intended. The best pleasure is the pleasure that God intended, pleasure that is magnified and reflected back by giving it away; pleasure that is rooted in selflessness and self-sacrifice.
  • No, it's not wrong. However, eating I don't think should necessarily be considered pleasure only because it's necessary to live and more of a relief. Some people do equate eating with pleasure though, so it is just an opinion. . Now, I think pleasure should be experienced as often as possible in this short life we lead. However, it shouldn't be exercised at the expense of someone else's pleasure. If making money gives me pleasure, but to do it I have to kill people, then there is a conflict because my pleasure shouldn't be reliant on the pain or suffering of others. IMHO. So have fun and enjoy yourself! +3
