  • Install tolerance? Is that a new operating system? "Hey Bill, did you upgrade to Tolerance 2.0 yet? I installed mine yesterday - still a bit buggy"
  • The question of the millennium. +5
  • You learn the purpose of a thing by the function it performs. IF... ...religion doesn't advocate tolerance, then a) it's not religion's function or b) religion is not being used for it's intended purpose.
  • Organized religion isn't about instilling tolerance. It is a social institution with temporal power, interested in expanding and solidifying that temporal power, and in propogating itself.
  • Humans, as a species are very arrogant. You fight for your life if any thing that you love is threatened to be terminated. That doesn't explain the arrogance, but if you look at religion as a form of military, they have people devoted to recruiting others into that certain religion. They have code and conduct, for example, the 10 commandments. To be followed INSIDE the religion. Because you have the option to be religious, no? Granted, these 'codes & conducts' are to be followed in your everyday life as a MEMBER of that certain religion. So that only makes your role in society more appropriate and safe right?
  • Sadly, that's not a part of religion's agenda. If anything, it's to do the opposite, its the job of sane, rational people to instill tolerance. Religion isn't helping and we'd be better off without it, it segregates people.
