What is it that makes preferring the buzz from beer (or other alcohol) morally superior to preferring the buzz of marijuana or crack?

I don't think it is the preference which is subject to moral objection, I think it is the participation in and taking of the drug. There are a few things... 1) Beer is legal, whereas cannabis and crack aren't. 2) Buying beer doesn't (or is highly unlikely to) provide money for criminal gangs, buying marajuana or crack is more likely to, especially crack. 3) When you think about the route crack has taken from source to you, a lot of people have been harmed both directly and indirectly as a result of its production and dristribution. When you buy drugs, some drugs, it is likely that you are aiding other illegal and immoral acts to take place.

A lot of it is just popular opinion. People are just used to alcohol as being more accepable but... I think the main thing that separates beer from marijuana or crack, is the difference in the type and power of the buzz. Although both are harmful to your health when taken in large amounts over extended periods of time, smoking drugs is more dramatic in altering your perceptions. Marijuana can make you paranoid and fearful when no actual danger is present. It does this by directly altering the neuro-chemical activity and balance of the brain, and thus the mental state. Alcohol is not as powerful in this way as it does not provide direct neuro-chemical alterations. People who have had particularly bad experiences with drugs will very often lobby against the use of them later in life because they know that drugs are harmful to your mental health.

The law and Politics. Marijuana is actually less harmful than alcohol products. Crack is additive and very dangerous. There is a big difference between the Two. Society does not know this. I do not smoke Pot but everyone in college tries it. THC the chemical which gets people high should be legal. Smoking anything promotes Cancer. If Adults drank THC to relax they would not become physically addicted to it. The addiction is Psychological. People who smoke Pot are mellow. They are not aggressive like drunk people.

I don't know AR. I have never tried the hard stuff. Once many many years ago I took three puffs on a marijuana cigarette that a friend had lit and I was so nervous and frightened I refused to take any more puffs and I felt nothing at all. I know what the effects of alcohol are and I drink in moderation. I don't smoke cigarettes so why should I smoke marijuana? As for hard drugs, I'm a scairdy cat. My life is exciting as it is...I don't need to go down any dark alleys to get my kicks. Of course that is just the opinion of someone who doesn't know anything about this stuff. Happy Wednesday! :)

Because the likely hood of having some steel bracelets snapped on my wrists is a bummer. Plus, the UI tests don't give a crap about booze, so you lose the job for being a pot head.
