Is the whole strategy of politics these days to not look or do good, just not to be as bad as you opponent? Is it a race to the bottom?

Well I think that the immediate exposure of what is going on these days (with the media and Internet and satellite information), it is more difficult for politicians to hide what they are doing. Not that that deters some of them from finding ways to overcome that. Since the beginning of time, politics has been a dirty business, at the expense of the taxpayer. Power corrupts and often, even people who start off with good intentions, can fall into the trap. Sorry, but I am disillusioned because I do not see much improvement in any direction as the years go by.
