Its all fae, and all kinds of supernatural things actually. Some examples include iron fences around cemetereys in order to keep the dead held within and the old wives tale that buring a iron knife underneath the entrance to your home would keep a witch from being able to enter. The myth probably stems from the fact that iron was considered the peak of human technology at the time, whereas the fae symbolized everything that mankind couldn't understand in the world.
